Nelle’s Christmas tunes.

As promised: the playlist that’s been on repeat here ever since the countdown to Christmas began (right after Halloween, was it?), and some quick but heartfelt Holiday wishes.

the playlist

Many years old, this one, and hardly expanding if only because the love I have for my favourites is so untouchable. If I really had to name a top three? Well, you all know I’m a sucker for Last Christmas by now, but it’s actually Bowie’s and Bing Crosby’s version of Little Drummer Boy, The Pogues’ Fairytale of New York and a festive Ramones banger that really take the crown. Add The Darkness’ Don’t Let the Bells End AND a couple of Muppets songs to that, and you could definitely say it’s a pretty varied soundtrack for whatever plans you have tonight and/or tomorrow. Christmas cheer guaranteed, though, so go ahead and put it on right now to get into the zone!

the wishes.

Once again, it’s a pretty strange year to be celebrating anything, let alone a holiday that - to me and a lot of other people (sorry, Jeebus) - simply revolves around so much warmth and the idea of ‘happiness & joy’ for all. It’s too much of a weird world, and a pretty selfish one at that, to ignore everything else that’s going on outside of our cosy, Christmas tree-filled living rooms, even though I’m a fervent fan of cherishing our own lucky circumstances. Therefore, my only wish this year is for you (for me, for us) to never let that selfishness creep into our own little worlds. To appreciate the little and big things that make us lucky. To never forget to stand up for what’s right, in whatever small way we can. Whether that’s through drawing, talking, donating and reposting, or just by refusing to give hate, discrimination and de-humanisation a place at the (Christmas) dinner table.

Tons of love, sweeties.
Enjoy your holidays.
