6 things I’m looking forward to in my ‘time off’.
I am currently taking two weeks off from work at my day job, and I have to be honest: the countdown was real. Not that I’m not going to miss pouring those coffees and bantering with my colleague bestie, but because there was just SO much I wanted to do with the extra time that well-deserved holiday would provide me with. Here’s a top 6!
cleaning the last couple of big rooms/closets/cupboards on the spring cleaning list.
Oh, I know. We are well beyond Spring cleaning season by now, but here’s the thing; having two jobs and quite the fun social life to boot? It doesn’t leave me with a lot of time or - especially - energy to keep everything as tidy and neat as I’d prefer. Some people seem to manage it, but I guess it’s just not a skill I have. Not a great combo when you also consider I can hardly focus or get creative when the corner of my eye, and the back of my mind, are filled with clutter, both material and otherwise. Needless to say that the little bit of extra time I have right now will come in handy when it comes to ticking off those last to-dos, and setting up the perfect environment in the run-up to my favourite, productive season.
outdoor adventures (and going on them without having to worry about the day after, haha).
Speaking of favourite seasons: this one? Definitely not one of them. However, I can’t deny that there’s no better - or let’s say ‘easier’ - time in the year to go out and have some fun. There’s so much to do; from having drinks outdoors at home or at a cafe and food-filled get-togethers, to Summer bars, parties in the open air and cosy campfires. All of that without feeling guilty about losing some extra hours to work on drawings and chores, or having only half the energy the day after. You have plenty of time to make up for it, you know what I mean?
spending more quality time with friends & family.
Apart from you being able to go to all of the above, you’re probably also not the only one enjoying some time off this time of year. Getting to go on these adventures, or chilling out, together with your loved ones, no curfew in sight? Heaven.
the arrival of Jones & Sorsha.
That’s right. Strummer will be gaining not one, but two little siblings in my second week off. It’s all pretty exciting since the difference in age is quite up there, and I’ve no idea what his reaction will be, but Strummer’s a dream of a cat (and so are Jones and Sorsha, but add a little bit of extra kitten mischief) so I’m sure it’ll turn out brilliant. This major life event accidentally taking place when I have the time to be there for all of it, though, is a stroke of luck and I can’t wait to share every second of it.
practicing the art of slow living.
And with slow living I mean spending the majority of my days doing only what I really feel like doing, no stress, at a very slow pace, haha. For example, my very first real day off? Spent it reading, only getting up to fill and empty the washing machine when it was done (productivity, hurray!), prepping my lunch, and a quick desk-cleaning session so it was ready for what I’ll mention in a second. On a regular day, I’d be quite stressed out that I spent so much time doing ‘nothing’ (part of me still was, trust me). But guess what? Doing nothing is an absolute must once in a while, and rather good for you.
prepping my autumn/halloween collection.
Last but not least; the countdown to Autumn and spooky season has officially started for me, you guys. I usually start brainstorming about my favourite season of the year in August anyway, but since I’ll be extra busy in September this year, I decided to up my game a little bit and try finishing up before the end of my ‘time off' this month. Hence the apostrophes. The ideas and references have been gathered, and I can’t wait to start on some sketches before the colouring sessions next week. Surrounded by not one, not two, but THREE cats by then. Now, that’s what I call a holiday.
how do you like to fill up a good staycation?
Love, always
