On repeat.

My current go-to albums and playlists, all summed up.

albums.

prelude to ecstasy - the last dinner party.

Hooked since I saw them opening for Hozier quite a while ago, but I’ve only just recently started listening to their entire album. There’s just something about them that really fits with those first days of sunshine. Perhaps it’s the promise of Summer around the corner, because I do associate them with festival season thanks to their passage at Rock Werchter last year. And, ah. That reminds me…. Quite bummed out here, about the fact that they’re scheduled to perform the day AFTER I visit Pukkelpop in August. I bet there’ll be lots of chances to catch these Women (capital W, yep) live some other time, though. Here’s hopin’. Current faves when it comes to songs: The Feminine Urge & My Lady of Mercy.

songs of a lost world - the cure.

I was OBSESSED when this one first came out earlier this year. Then Leia died and I suddenly couldn’t cope with all the feelings it brought up and enhanced. Now the obsession is back, and it’s actually a lovely way to remember her by. I mostly put it on while working, because it’s so soothing and relaxes me while I chase them deadlines. Current faves: the entire thing, basically, but if I have to name two: Nothing is Forever & I Can Never Say Goodbye.

Let’s cross over from Spotify to my small but precious vinyl collection, shall we?

live at acton town hall- joe strummer & the mescaleros.

My boyfriend was so sure I’d rethink my opinion on presents for Easter being absolutely ridiculous ‘cause all a person really wants then is chocolate… And he was frickin’ right. Damnit. I was tearing up the minute I heard Joe speaking to the audience that saw him live, right before he died mere weeks later. To top it off, Mick Jones joins him right at the end to sing a couple of Clash classics. Yeah… Best gift ever. Current faves: White Riot. WITH Mick. You should’ve seen my face the first time I heard it on vinyl.

rushmere- mumford & sons.

I am and forever will be a Marcus fan girly, and an entire - (ok, save one. But we got rid of him, didn’t we?) Mumford - band - stan, yep, and I actually liked their long-awaited, new album. Can’t wait to see them live in November! Current faves: Malibu, Caroline & Where It Belongs.

plastic beach - gorillaz.

An album I also associate with those first sunny days, and Damon Albarn promised us new music real soon, and two previous band members of The Clash are featured on this, and… Plenty of reasons for me to move this record to the front of my collection again, right? Right! Current faves: the entire thing. Sorry, but I really REALLY can’t pick favourites here. It’s genius from start to finish.

playlists.

And back to Spotify! These are the playlists I put on almost daily:

my own Spring playlist.

I’ve already started on a Summer edition, as well. Note how I don’t even have a cover photo yet, which should tell you it’s faaaar from finished but already enjoyable all the same. 😌

90s hip hop.

You know your bar team has started the countdown to this year’s Summer when they reach for their favourite playlist from the last one again (we went to see Nas & De La Soul, ergo…). We tend to just look up the genre Spotify’s playlists (this one rules), but I have one of my own as well. Although that one features a whole lot more than one decade of the juiciest jams.

daylist.

It took me quite a while, but I’ve really warmed up to Spotify’s daylist concept, where they make a playlist for you based on the things you usually listen to at THAT time, on THAT day. I can even give you a current favourite for this, too: it’s Tuesday, proto-punk day!

And there you have it! All the music that is soundtracking my life at the moment. How about yours?

Q || what are your go-tos when it comes to music these days?

Lots of love,
